At least 300 out of 640 students at Lunchenza secondary in Thyolo are sleeping on bed rails and torn mattresses, owing to a lack of school mattresses.

Schools head teacher, Herbert Msasa said the lack is huge since two or three students are sharing pieces of torn mattresses.

This has come out on Wednesday when Agora Limited made available 20 mattresses to the school in response to the management's request.

"The problem is big and we thank Agora for stretching their hands to us. We are still appealing to well-wishers to come and bail us out since there is still a huge number of learners who deserve to sleep comfortably," Msasa said.

The company's marketing and business development manager, Tayanjana Madinga says the donation is to ensure that students have a comfortable place to rest which can improve academic performance.

Madinga said the donation is the company's corporate social responsibility.

He added: "this is also a way of strengthening our relationship with the community for their continued support".
