A tinsmith by profession, Afiki narrates his story as his body mass rests on a single stick that act as a mobility aide to paralysis of the legs.

Speaking with a Yao accent, Afiki could not hold tears of joy as he holds a gadget he believes is a passport to economic prosperity.

In his hands is specialized torch that has been given by an organization called Watts of Love.

The gadget is expected to alleviate people from bills of kerosine and candles as it uses rechargeable batteries and solar power.

"We want people to save money they use to buy candles or kerosine at night for lighting. The money which was meant for light should be invested." Nancy Economou founder and President of WATTS of LOVE told Zodiak.

She said the idea was born in 2009 in Fillipines and later modified in 2013.

"We encourage recipients of the torches to start putting money budgeted for lighting in a box, then the money will be used to buy a chicken for example. The chicken will multiply, then one will think of goats, cows and it goes on. Leaving the beneficiary economically independent." Said Economou.

Daniel Baison entrusted to train beneficiaries and distribute the torches said he has managed to see families transform.

Malawi Council for the Handicapped MACOHA an organization that is taking part in identifying beneficiaries has described the initiative as an eye opener to the underprivileged.

According to Economou, WATS of LOVE has so far touched souls in over twenty five thousand families in Malawi and has an environmental advantage as unnecessary burnings are averted.
