Heavy Karonga Rains Render Families Destitute

Over one hundred families in Karonga have been rendered homeless as a result of heavy rains and strong winds that have destroyed their houses.

District Commissioner for Karonga Paul Kalilombe has confirmed the development saying council officials are already on the ground to assess extent of the damage caused by the rains and strong winds.

Member of Parliament for Karonga South Uchizi Mkandawire has told Zodiak the affected households are in dire need of relief food and roofing materials.

Meanwhile, The Muslim World League through its relief arm, International Organization for Relief, Welfare and Development says it will double its annual monetary allocation towards humanitarian assistance in the country.

A Representative for the organization, Sheikh Mossa Mkhize said this Wednesday in Ntcheu when the organization donated maize flour to flood victims in the district.
