Culture Culprit for Rising Maternal, Neonatal Deaths

Some cultural practices are said to be contributing to maternal and neonatal deaths in the country.

For instance in Dedza, Safe motherhood  District Coordinator Godwins Mwanjera, says an average of 14 neonatal deaths are recorded per month as some cultural practices lead to delay by pregnant women, in seeking medical attention.

He was speaking when some stakeholders visited the district where NICEF is supporting a maternal health project.
