CDEDI Petitions Parliament
The Centre for Democracy and Economic Development Initiatives (CDEDI) yesterday presented a petition to parliament pushing for the tabling of an emergency maize bill.
The bill according to CDEDI Executive Director Sylvester Namiwa, will address the country's food situation that has seen a rise in Maize prices with price for 50kg bag hitting around MK35 000.
The petition presented to chairperson for Parliamentary Committee on Agriculture Sameer Suleman among others is requesting the National Food Reserve Agency to release maize to ADMARC depots in order for Malawians to easily access the commodity.

NRWB Nods to Likoma and Chizumulu Water Users Associations Operations Take Over
Northern Region Water Board (NRWB) has confirmed that it will take over the operations of Likoma and Chizumululu Water Users Associations (WUAs) following a request made by the islanders some two years ago.
The islanders made the request through Likoma district council asking NRWB to bail out WUA which was struggling financially to sustain the facilities due to population growth.
Director of Operations at NRWB, Dr Asumani Ungwe, made the revelation yesterday at a meeting at held at the district’s council.
Traditional Authority Kabuthu of Chizumulu Island, said on behalf of senior chief Mkumpha 3, the island communities are of the view that, with NRWB, will held deal with current challenges.
Former Cabinet Minister and Veteran Politician Goodall Gondwe Dies
Renowned economist-cum politician Goodall Gondwe has died at the age of 87 in Lilongwe, his nephew Komani Gondwe has confirmed. Komani says Goodall collapsed yesterday at his house in Lilongwe and was pronounced dead upon arrival at Adventist hospital later.
MDF Dismisses Four for Taking Bribes
Four Malawi Defence Force (MDF) soldiers have been dismissed after an internal disciplinary hearing. They were found guilty of taking bribes at a security check-point near Chirumba Barracks in Karonga.The four were accused of receiving the bribes from a truck driver driving from Mzuzu towards Karonga early morning yesterday.
