Stormy Rains; Over 25 Karonga Families Homeless

At least 26 families have been rendered homeless in Karonga district following heavy rains that destroyed houses yesterday.

District Commissioner for, Paul Kalilombe, has since sounded an SOS for government and people of goodwill to come forward with urgent humanitarian assistance.

“As a council we have already submitted a report to the Department of Disaster and Management Affairs for possible consideration,” said Kalilombe.

One of the affected villagers from the area of Principal GVH Kalambo said people need food and roofing materials as roofs of their houses were blown off in the strong winds.

For a number of years, communities in the district have been facing different forms of natural disasters mainly because of settling on a flooding plain.
