The National Youth Football Association is formulating a strategic plan to guide the association in its operations.

This was revealed at the association’s first annual general meeting in two years which took place in Salima on Saturday.

NYFA chairperson Osward Lungu says the association wants to have a direction in developing football after operating without a strategic plan for years.

speaking at the AGM NYFA Chairperson Osward Lungu said developing grassroots football has proved to be a difficult task because the association has been operating without a direction.

Lungu said despite making tremendous efforts in uplifting the game of football in the country, there are some grey areas that need to be looked at hence the need for a strategic plan.

He told Zodiak online that the association will in two weeks put in place a team that will work with relevant stakeholders so as to have a strategic plan that will guide the association in its operations.

"We want to bring in coaches, players, the FA and other technocrats that will help us have a proper strategic plan for us to have a system of football, our own type of football.

"People should associate Malawi with a certain type of football and that can only happen if we have a strategic plan that will guide us in our immediate and long term plans," Lungu said.

Meanwhile, the football association of Malawi youth development officer James Sangala who attended the AGM commended NYFA for taking what he described as "right path" in revamping the grassroots system.

During the AGM NYFA affiliates asked the youth football mother body to consider hiking prize money for both presidential under 17 and first capital under 20.

On the football restart, the association has welcomed the decision by the football association of Malawi to exclude youth football in the first phase of the restart.

NYFA will next hold its elective annual general meeting in December this year.
