Results released on Thursday by the Ministry of Education and Malawi National Examination Board (MANEB) shows that over 50 percent of students who sat for the 2009 Malawi School Certificate of Education (MSCE) examinations have passed.
Out of the 97,683 who wrote the examinations, 50, 061 have qualified representing a 51.25 % pass rate.

The University of Malawi released names of candidates selected to its constituent colleges on the evening of 21st January 2010. A total of 6, 203 candidates wrote the exams and of these 5, 355 candidates passed.
Of the 5, 355 Candidates that passed, 1,152 have been selected using the quota system of selecting students into the university.

The Chinese embassy in Malawi says it is committed to protect the plight of Malawian workers from any form of exploitation and has since warned its nationals against breaking the country’s labour laws saying any-one found will be expelled.
People’s Republic of China Ambassador to Malawi His Excellency Lin Song Tian made the announcement in Lilongwe on Thursday when he presented different office equipment to Malawi Congress of Trade Union (MCTU).
Ambassador Tian said a country cannot develop if its citizen are not protected from abuses from employers and it is for this reason that People’s Republic of China has come forward to equip MCTU to effectively fight for the workers.
