Semacia Mwase says her niece had hypertension and was referred to Bwaila Hospital from Kawale Health Center but claims nurses did not attend to her in time despite being in severe pain and asking for speedy assistance.

Rose’s aunt, Semacia Mwase, says despite receiving them well, a doctor they expected to attend to her did not show up when she needed attention.

She says she died moments later after the incident on Sunday, and her body was laid to rest on Tuesday.

Rose’s guardian Evelyn Fransisco said their experience with the nurses at the hospital was very sad.

Bwaila hospital authorities insist the facility did all it could to try to save her life.

While acknowledging Rose's death, Lilongwe District Health Office spokesperson Richard Mvula says it is unfortunate that she died in the process of taking her to the labour ward.

He says they will investigate the case to understand better the medical condition she had when she was first taken to Kawale Health Center.

The Lilongwe District Health Office has highlighted hypertension and anemia as some of the diseases causing deaths of pregnant women.
