Govt Tipped on Diplomatic Academy Establishment

Mkaka; There is a lot that takes to establish one Mkaka; There is a lot that takes to establish one

As the Tonse administration ponders on the establishment of a Diplomatic Academy, governance expert Victor Chipofya has tipped capitol hill to just introduce a standalone diplomatic course at an already existing institution of higher learning than starting from scratch which he says is costly and time-consuming.

"Malawi needs such an academy. But, for a start government should just discuss with already established institutions that can be provided such cases,” said Chipofya.

Victor Chipofya has noted that if the initiative is accomplished, Malawi will have diplomats that will be able to negotiate various deals with other countries.

Government hatched the idea of coming up with a Diplomatic Academy in 2020 to be attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Eisenhower Mkaka has however told Zodiak Online that it will take time for Malawi to come up with such an Academy since there is a lot that takes to establish one.

Said Mkaka, "we are currently discussing with our partners the possibility of fast-tracking the move.”

Crop of diplomats Malawi wants to be sending to work in various diplomatic missions, have required skills, and are not based on political affiliation, he said.

Malawi is one of the countries in Africa without a Diplomatic College. and most people who are sent to serve in diplomatic missions are sent based on political affiliation.
