Thyolo District Civil Society Organisations chairperson, Willard Mwambo, has observed that this is against the CDF bursary guidelines.

"It's so pathetic to see someone think of paying one term of school fees to needy students in this component within the package of school bursary which is clearly stipulated in the guidelines. In short, we are saying they are failing their responsibilities," he said.

Speaking to Zodiak Online on Wednesday, Thyolo District Council vice chairperson, Hudson Ovila expressed knowledge of the "unfortunate concerns" indicating; the council is planning to meet the MPs to address the challenge.

"As the council we are aware of the concerns. We really have that situation where students were paid only one or two terms, so the students are suffering and not going to school . This is not good. The district council is engaging the MPs so that they follow the guidelines and pay all the school terms for the needy students", Ovila said.

He said this has been registered at Thyolo and Luchenza Secondary Schools where currently, boarding fees is K90, 000 and K86, 000 respectively.

Meanwhile, to ease the fees challenge, Mwambo has created a Whatsapp group where members are pledging to pay school fees to a 14-year-old double orphaned boy who has been selected to Luchenza secondary school.

It is also reported that his sister from the child headed family of five, also failed to pursue her secondary studies at Thyolo secondary school in 2019-2020 academic year due to the same fees problem.

Currently, five percent of K100 million of CDF busket goes to bursary.
