The PACOSALI Foundation Limited says high interests on loans are suffocating many small and medium enterprises in rural areas.

The organization's executive director, Jordan Maloya said this is the reason they are providing free collateral and soft loans to its members to afford development.

Maloya said this on Wednesday at Mawonga 2 in Thyolo where the institution disbursed K1.2 million to ten business groups.

"Most money lending institutions are suffocating businesses in rural areas with high interests. But our objective is to ensure that people with little earnings are development after serving with us. This is also one way of contributing to the country's development blueprint, Malawi 2063," he said.

One of the women for Tiyetse club, Caroline Matola hailed the initiative, which she said gives members freedom to do business and development projects.

"With the money, we will boast our family banana business that we do in Blantyre. This initiative is a big relief to us because it does not require much from us like other institutions that lend people money," Matola said.

The organization is running a contributory scheme among low income communities to enable them access the loans and do businesses for their individual development.

So far, it has reached out to people in Thyolo, Chiradzulu, Mulanje and Phalombe with loans in a form of farm inputs, money, construction materials and motorcycles, according to Maloya.
