The Blantyre City Council (BCC) has pleaded with well-wishers to support the relocation exercise of Cyclone Freddy survivors from Soche to Mapanga area.

BCC Chief Executive Officer, Dennis Chimsewu, says the support can be in the form of building materials or construction equipment among others.

“What we need now is material support such as human resource and technical equipment. We are almost finalized with the layout of the land but there are issues of road network and water provision within the area. Construction companies can even come and help us with the road grading as part of giving back to the people.

“People can even come forward to support the households who will be relocated there. This is an emergency for them. They can assist with building materials such as cement and iron sheets. Even financial institutions can support them with soft loans,” he said.

Chimsewu has also called upon the media to be responsible by not spreading news that can create resistance among the people to relocate.

“We do not want to see what happened to the people during the Cyclone Freddy happening again,” he said.

Government allocated land at Mapanga along the Limbe – Zomba road for the city council to relocate the people for safety.
