The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF)-Malawi, has commended government for its efforts in securing farm jobs for the youth in Israel, recognizing the potential impact on the nation's economy.
EFF Malawi president based in USA, Tengani Alex Chanthunya has told Zodiak, that there is a need for concerted efforts to prioritize welfare of Malawians and harness the nation's full potential in building a robust economy.
"This is one way of addressing the current economic woes Malawi is going through. We however demand Answers from Government on the whole process," said Chanthunya.

He says there have been inconsistencies between the government's initial denial and its later acknowledgment about these job placements.

According to Chanthunya, this contradiction raises doubts about the credibility of the whole process thereby eroding public trust in this government on such a critical national issue.

"The EFF therefore passionately pleads for safety of Malawians abroad, including those in Israel for work opportunities," urges Chanthunya.

Wezi Kayla, principal secretary for the ministry of labor, said in a statement dated November 24, 2023, that Malawi had embarked on an initiative to export labor to various countries, including Israel as part of Tonse Alliance' job creation drive and youth empowerment.

Reads part of the statement:- "The youth going to Israel will work in a certified and approved locations classified as fit and safe. "
There are however mixed reactions from the society and commentators, with some cautioning government to put into consideration the issue of labor migration, and consider safety of Malawians as Israel is currently a war zone.

Leader of opposition in Malawi Parliament Kondwani Nankhumwa, was the first to raise the issue in the August house; whereby he accused government for keeping the whole process a secret, labelling it 'an evil transaction.'

An Israeli Airbus A321-251 took the first cohort of about 220 youths last Saturday night.
