Three security guards are in custody in Thyolo after police on suspicion that they were demanding extra money from people to access fertilizer under the Affordable Inputs Programme (AIP).

South East Police Spokesperson, Edward Kabango has told Zodiak Online on Thursday that the three were arrested at Makwasa selling point.

Kabango said the first to be arrested was Brighton Manyowa 45, from Ndauza village, Senior Chief Khwethemule in the district.

He said Manyowa was arrested following a complaint from a certain man that the suspect overcharged him to access the commodities.

Then, Manyowa revealed the other two suspects who are Grant Matope 37 from Likwakwanda village T/A Mchiramwera and Alex Jonasi 41 from Ndinyaza village T/A Khwethemule.

The suspects have been found with money amounting to K155,900 which is suspected to have been stolen.

Meanwhile, police have charged with obtaining money by false pretense.
