Government says it is committed to ensure that resources are available to complete all the projects initiated by the previous regimes.

Minister of local government, unity and culture, Richard Chimwendo-Banda, says currently contractors are getting paid without any problem to complete the stalled projects.

Banda said this on Friday in Thyolo after touring the district council office complex, stadium and Nsuwazi bridge, pledging that the office and stadium will be completed in the next two months.

Chimwendo-Banda has reiterated that the previous governments used to initiate development projects when there was no political will and resources to complete them.

"We have made resources available, the fact is that apart from resources it is the will. But you cannot just start a project and dump it. If you are not ready for it, they best way is not to do it, you must plan and executive the plan accordingly," he said.

Thyolo district commissioner, Hudson Kuphanga, says the projects will provide a conducive working environment and improve the council's tax base.

"You can understand that the office that we are occupying now was built long time ago in 1900. So, with the coming in of the new office, it will make sure that all the offices that are scattered to come at one place and work as a team," Kuphanga said.

Meanwhile, the minister has disclosed that government has energized its political will to devolve government powers so that local councils are working effectively.
