MK2.5 Million Cost To Move LLDC Flag Pole Raises Alarm

Some governance experts have described as alarming a decision by Lilongwe District Council’s decision to move a flag-pole to another spot within the yard, which will cost the council 2,5 million kwacha, according to a memo we have seen.

One of them Victor Chipofya says for a long time, state funds in Malawi are unfortunately are looked at as expendables, but urged the council to justify the amount so it makes sense among Malawians.

Meanwhile, another expert George Phiri says he assumes this includes a massive structure constructed on the new site, otherwise it is unreasonable to prioritize that with an economy that is on a sick bed.
