Lilongwe, Malawi– Emerge Livelihoods, a non-governmental organisation, has called for stronger collaboration among key stakeholders in the climate change sector to effectively address challenges facing businesses.
The call was made by the organisation’s Programs Director, Jonathan Nandolo, during the three-day Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Livelihoods Summit (SELS 2025) currently underway in Lilongwe. The summit has drawn together Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), policymakers, financial institutions, and development partners from across Malawi and beyond.
Nandolo said the gathering is an important step toward building a resilient and sustainable business environment, particularly in sectors affected by climate change.
“The climate change sector presents huge opportunities, but Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) continue to face serious challenges,” he noted. “One of the biggest obstacles is limited access to affordable financing. We need joint efforts to unlock sustainable solutions for business growth and ensure no one is left behind.”
He added that strengthening collaboration among stakeholders will not only help address financing gaps but also open doors for knowledge sharing, technology transfer, and policy alignment.
“Climate change is a shared problem, and it requires a shared response,” Nandolo stressed. “Partnerships between government, private sector, and development players are critical if we are to achieve meaningful progress.”
Participants at the summit are engaging in panel discussions, networking sessions, and exhibitions designed to highlight innovative business models that contribute to environmental sustainability while creating jobs.
Chancy Ng’oma Chief Executive Officer of *KCHKNA Pvt Limited, a renewable energy company, said the summit has provided an ideal platform for MSMEs to gain visibility and build valuable networks.
“This summit is a vital space for businesses like ours,” Ng’oma said. “It allows us to connect with relevant stakeholders, share ideas, and explore growth opportunities in the renewable energy sector. Such platforms give MSMEs the confidence and exposure they need to thrive.”
The summit is expected to conclude with a set of actionable recommendations aimed at supporting MSMEs, improving access to finance, and fostering innovation that contributes to both livelihoods and environmental protection..
