Mozambican National Arrested for Possessing Fake Currency

Jesitene; to appear in court soon

Police in Mchinji have arrested a 29-year-old Mozambican national, Mathews Marcos Jesitene, for possessing 36,000 fake Mozambican meticais equivalent to about K970,000.

District Police Spokesperson Limbani Mpinganjira told Zodiak Online that the suspect was arrested while offering the fake currency for exchange into Malawian kwacha. 

"Police acted on a tip to arrest the suspect at the Mchinji Boma taxi car park. He was found with fake MT36, 000 notes," Mpinganjira said.

He adds that the police have since seized the foreign currency, as Jesitene is expected to appear in court soon.

Meanwhile,  the Mchinji Police Spokesperson has hailed the public for the good working relationship with law enforcers in combating crime in the district. 

Jesitene hails from Ndeketeya Village, Chief Ngweya, in Chifunde District in Mozambique.
