The Scout Association of Malawi has taken bold steps to tackle food insecurity and youth unemployment with its ‘Food for Life’ initiative.
The association, with support from World Scout Bureau, is training young people on sustainable farming, nutrition, and entrepreneurship.
Food for Life project Coordinator Edward Nyamwera said theu want young people to be able to produce food themselves and take part in addressing vulnerabilities in many aspects of life.
"We believe they have energy and potential to be part of the solution to food insecurity in the country," he said.
Currently, Scouts from across the country have gathered in Lilongwe for a 3-day training packed with practical skills and community-building expertise.
Alice Mphande, a participant from Mzuzu is hopeful the initiative will significantly help add value to their impact in the society.
"This project is very important because it gives us hands-on experience. We can teach other youth, start farms and venture into businesses. It addresses hunger and poverty, improving our communities' lives."
The Food for Life initiative aligns with global efforts to achieve food security and promote sustainable agriculture.
By empowering youth with essential skills, the Scout Association of Malawi is expected to contribute in building resilient communities and a brighter future for the nation's young generation.
