President Lazarus Chakwera has assented to six bills that Parliament passed in the 51st session.
The most notable is the Foreign Exchange Amendment Act of 2025.
The new act aims to clamp down on forex dealers operating on the parallel market where rates often soar above official benchmarks.
Among others, the act has clauses that a person who engages, or attempts to engage, in improper transfer pricing with intent to transfer foreign currency out of Malawi, commits an offence and liable to a fine of K1.2 billion or an amount equal to the value of the transaction involved in the offence, or 14 years in prison.
The others include loan authorisation from the International Development Association for a clean energy project dubbed accelerating sustainable and clean energy access transformation in Malawi, ascent Malawi.
The Malawi leader has also assented to Taxation Amendment Bill, Appropriation and Supplementary Appropriation to allow the expenditure of the 2025-26 fiscal plan and Value Added Tax Amendment Bill.
The assent is in exercise of powers vested in him by Section 89 of the Constitution of Malawi.
