Chakwera Commits to Developing Malawi

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera says his government is committed to institute development projects in all districts of the country.

Chakwera made the remarks Tuesday during a visit to Chitipa district where he appreciated different projects government is doing in the district.

"It is the wish of government to improve lives of people, especially those in rural areas, by among others implementing development projects in their areas," he said.

The president told a gathering at Ichinga Primary School ground that government will, among other projects, construct a warehouse in the area so that farmers store farm produce they will be harvesting at Ifumbo Irrigation Scheme, adding road and network connectivity will also be improved.

"We need to improve the road here (at Ifumbo), so that farmers find it easy to transport their produce, and improve mobile network so that farmers easily communicate with buyers," said Chakwera.

In his remarks, Senior Chief Mwaulambya applauded government for showing interest to construct the Chitipa-Ilomba road, saying the importance of the road cannot be overemphasized.

While in Chitipa district, President Chakwera visited Marko Irrigation Scheme at Ifumbo, inspected construction of houses for security officers at Meru Garrison, and also inspected construction works of Chitipa-Ilomba road and Chitipa Stadium.

The President was accompanied by several senior government officials.
