Government has called for concerted efforts among players in the tourism industry if the nation is to boost the country's economy through the sector.

Tourism Minister Michael Usi, sounded the call on Monday in Lilongwe during an engagement with the private sector on progress of the integrated water front development projects in Nkhatabay and Salima.

According to Usi tourism industry plays a vital role in economic development and could accelerate the achievement of Malawi 2063 agenda,the country’s long-term development plan.

"We need to work collaboratively to the benefit of the nation as the private sector can tap best practices from the Malawi Investment Master Blueprint," Usi said.

Standard Bank Head of business and commercial clients Graham Chipande believes private sector is a major contributor to the growth of the tourism industry.

"Tourism is one of the best practices that can boost the country's economy by working together with government to fulfill all targeted plans," Chipande added.
