The court through state prosecutor, Sergeant Ernest Mtambo, heard that on the night of June, 30, 2023, Tonny who is a sex worker went to bottle store around Makawa area for business.

Mtambo said a few minutes later, Tonny was surprised to see her boyfriend coming into the bar with another girl.

"Disagreements erupted between the two and in the process Tonny, smashed an empty bottle of beer and stabbed the other girl all over the body before she was rushed to Koche Community Hospital here she was treated for a few days," explained Mtambo.

Appearing before court, Tonny, who pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawful wounding, asked for leniency, citing that she is too young to go to prison.

In his submission, state prosecutor Sergeant Mtambo reminded the court that the convict's behavior cannot be tolerated by society, hence he asked for a custodial sentence.

Passing sentence, Third Grade Magistrate John Kamphani concurred with the state and sentenced her to one-year imprisonment with hard labor, to serve as a deterrent to other would-be offenders.
