The campaign was launched on Thursday after one of the alumnus shared with fellow alumni a Zodiak online story on acute shortage of mattresses at the school.
Luchenza Secondary School Alumni (LUSSA) Public Relations Officer Grace Likagwa told Zodiak Online that the campaign will run up to 30th November 2023.
"There is an overwhelming response from the alumni and our target is to source 100 mattresses and will be handed over to the school before the closure of this school term," said Likagwa.
Meanwhile education activist Benedict Kondowe has described the swift response by the alumni as very commendable, worth emulating and positive development.
“Such a gesture however must not encourage government from abdicating its responsibility of making public schools operate with all provisions and these include sleeping materials (beds and mattresses) to boarding schools," said Kondowe.
Within two days, about 90 mattresses were sourced through cash contributions and pledges.
Meanwhile, Likagwa is calling upon other well-wishers to partner with the alumni in this campaign.
