Govt Yet to Over 50 Climate Smart Public Works Beneficiaries in Thyolo

About 56 Climate Smart Public Works Program households in the area of Group Village Headwoman Mangwalala, Senior Chief Khwethemule in Thyolo have faulted the government for allegedly deleting their names on the list of the beneficiaries before paying them.

GVH Mangwalala and a beneficiary from Kaipsa village, Abdul Segula said that on Friday, the council extension workers communicated the development without stating the reasons.

However, the beneficiaries said this is a surprise as the government is yet to pay the money they worked for from January to March 2023 amounting to K75, 000 each.

Meanwhile, the district's program desk officer, Francis Yohane, has admitted that 1, 400 people of the targeted 15, 550 are yet to receive their wages for cycle one since they have no National IDs which is a requirement to open a mobile money account.

Yohane, however, said the wages are being processed to pay soon those who worked, but through the alternative receivers.

He added, "so, those who opened Mpamba accounts with TNM in the first place received their wages, 1400 people across the district did not and did not receive their wages despite that they worked."

Meanwhile, the cycle two of the program has commenced which will run for 24 days and authorities hope it will not encounter same scenario as in cycle 1.
