Independent presidential candidate Smart Swira has pledged to lead Malawi out of its current crises through bold anti-corruption measures, faith-driven leadership, and electoral reforms.
Presenting his nomination papers to the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) in Lilongwe on Thursday, Swira outlined his vision for national transformation, promising strict accountability to ensure public funds are properly managed and directed toward development.
Framing his campaign as both a political and spiritual mission, Swira declared his bid divinely inspired, aimed at rescuing Malawians from poverty and governance failures.
“This is not just a political journey—it is a calling to restore integrity and hope to our nation,” he said.
Swira enters a crowded race of 19 presidential hopefuls, including incumbent Lazarus Chakwera, positioning himself as an anti-establishment alternative guided by moral principles.
Meanwhile, MEC spokesperson Sangwani Mwafulirwa cautioned candidates that the Commission will not accept nomination papers submitted after the 4 PM deadline on Thursday.
The warning follows delays by some presidential aspirants who had to correct errors in their documentation.
The MEC closes nominations today, Wednesday, for all positions in the upcoming September 16 elections.
