Silver Strikers Set 2020 Targets
Silver Strikers have set a clean sweep of silverwares as part of the targets for their new coach Dan Kabwe.
Silver appointed Kabwe as their new head coach earlier this week replacing the retired Young Chimodzi and will be deputized by MacDonald Mtetemera and MacDonald Yobe.
Speaking after the appointment Silver Strikers board chair Dr. Victor Madhlopa said the Lilongwe giants have embarked on a commercialization drive and bringing in an expatriate coach is part of the whole process.
However Madhlopa mentioned that they strongly believe the changes made at the club will uncover fruits.
“Silver strikers is now a company and this has been long overdue, we are glad we have finally done it.
“We know expectations are high with what we have done so far, bringing in a new coach and not just any other coach but an expatriate coach with experience.
“He (Kabwe) has history in football and with his expertise, we hope the team will start performing to the level of top teams.” Dr Madhlopa said.
In addition Madhlopa said the type of play and the philosophy of Kabwe has tempted the board to set targets for their new coach to grab all the trophies in the country in 2020.
“The type of football he (Kabwe) is bringing to the bankers is more of a duplicate to that of what we see in Zambia which is fast and direct football, with that approach we have a better chance to challenge for honors this season and probably the next and going forward.” Madhlopa said.
Meanwhile Silver Strikers have also abolished its executive committee to setup a proper secretariat to run the affairs of the club as a company.
Thoko Chimbali has been roped in as the new Chief Executive Officer whereas Daniel David Dauda is the new Marketing and Communications Officer with their former player Peter Mgangira returning to his post he held a year ago at the same club as the team manager.
Former Blantyre United mentor Leo Mpulula has also been appointed as the new Silver Strikers Reserve head Coach.
