Speaking after donating relief items to the Department of Disaster Management Affairs (DoDMA) on Tuesday in Blantyre, the company’ board chairperson, Rodrick Kadam’manja Phiri said companies have a moral duty to alleviate the suffering that people are facing and assist in the rebuilding process.
He added that this is a right time for well-wishers, organizations and companies to continue supporting cyclone survivors.
“We think disaster response and recovery plans are vital. We believe in corporate social responsibility. The events that happened in Malawi demand that we take our moral position to assist,” said Kadam’manja.
MCCL member, Dingiswayo Sambo also shared Phiri’s sentiments that the availability of the disaster response and recovery plans will guide donors and partners to assist appropriately.
DoDMA Director of Disaster Preparedness Rev Moses Chimphepo said they expect to release a three-month response plan soon that will enable them to render lifesaving activities to flood survivors.
“We are happy that various countries, organisations and companies have assisted us. We will be implementing a response plan soon to make sure that victims get adequate support,” said Rev Chimphepo.
