The Ministry of Education has launched an investigation into allegations where a teacher at Kalibu Academy is suspected to have attempted to rape a female student.
Education Spokesperson, Chikondi Chimala, says the ministry has indeed authored a letter, noting with concern reports of abuse of children at Karibu Academy.
The letter signed by Education Secretary Chikondano Mussa has cited a particular case where a male teacher alleged to have attempted to rape a female student at the school.
“This is the reason we have instituted the investigation. We now call upon the general public to provide us with finer details,” said Chimala.
Meanwhile, education analyst Steve Sharra has asked learning institutions to establish strict measures to protect girls from sexual abuses.
“Students at all levels have to feel safe when they are at school. We therefore ask all learning organizations to come up with strict systems to curb sexual abuses,” said Sharra.
There was no immediate response from Kalibu academy on the matter.
Malawi has been experiencing rampant cases of girls abuses especially rape and defilement.
