Empowering Futures: Vision Fund Malawi Hosts ‘Bring Your Child to Work’

Ng’oma Ntaba: Our mission is centered on children

Vision Fund Malawi has emphasized its commitment to child-centered development by hosting its annual Bring Your Child to Work initiative, a program designed to strengthen family bonds while inspiring the next generation to dream beyond boundaries.

Speaking at the event, Vision Fund Malawi Chief Executive Officer Theodora Ng’oma Ntaba stressed the organization’s belief in inclusive financial services that extend beyond communities to begin within the institution itself.

“Our mission is centered on children, so we felt it important to start from within,” Ntaba said. “By allowing our children to see what we do, they gain an appreciation of the responsibility we all share in improving lives. This understanding helps them recognize the significance of their roles in shaping a brighter future.”

The event, held in Lilongwe, brought together approximately 25 children aged between 2 and 15. It offered them a rare glimpse into their parents’ professional lives, fostering appreciation for the sacrifices made at work and exposing them to diverse career paths.

For 15-year-old Leroi Ng’oma, the experience was eye-opening.

“Now I understand what my dad does when he comes to the office,” he said. “Sometimes, as children, we don’t grasp why our parents are tired, and we fail to appreciate their sacrifices. Going forward, I will no longer be the same.”

Organizers hailed the initiative as more than symbolic, saying it provides children with a safe outlet for emotional expression, which experts say can help reduce risks of depression and anxiety.

By bridging the gap between home and workplace, Vision Fund hopes to nurture resilience, empathy, and ambition among Malawi’s youth.

Ntaba said the Bring Your Child to Work program has now been established as an annual event to reinforce the company’s broader mission of empowering communities through financial inclusion and child-focused engagement.
