Chakwera Opens K7.4 Billion Thyolo District Council Office Complex

President Dr. Lazarus Chakwera has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to implementing development projects across the country regardless of people’s origin or political affiliation.

He made the remarks today when he officially opened the K7.4 billion Thyolo District Council office complex, which replaces the colonial-era offices built in 1900.

Chakwera also took a swipe at a certain political party which he accused of misleading people in the Lhomwe belt by claiming credit for projects completed under his administration.

“Its sad that politicians here have been lying to the people of Chiradzulu, Thyolo, Mulanje and Phalombe about the development projects that I have implementing in districts. They say that they initiated them. Such tendencies cannot help move the country forward,” said Chakwera.

Earlier, Minister of Local Government, Unity and Culture, Richard Chimwendo-Banda, said President Chakwera deserves a fresh mandate for ensuring development projects are spread across all districts.

He further assured the gathering that government will complete the Thyolo Stadium, whose progress has reportedly stalled due to funding adjustments.

Thyolo District Commissioner, Hudson Kuphanga, hailed the new facility, saying it has improved the district’s public service environment.

“The new offices are spacious, they have boosted staff morale and enhanced service delivery,” said Kuphanga.

The modern office complex, constructed by China Civils Contractors, features 74 offices and five conference rooms. Construction began in 2017 but faced several delays, missing the initial 2020 completion target due to inconsistent funding.
