GBA Expands Irrigation Plans, Donates K4 Million Worth of Supplies to Thyolo Hospital

The Greenbelt Authority (GBA) says it is expanding its operations to establish more irrigation schemes, including two planned projects in Thyolo District.

GBA spokesperson Sam Majamanda disclosed on Saturday that discussions are at an advanced stage with Conforzi Plantation Limited and Mpatsa Holdings for potential joint ventures in the district.

“Currently in Thyolo, we do not have a running project. But consultations are underway to establish irrigation schemes in the district, specifically in the Conforzi and Khonjeni areas,” Majamanda said.

“After engaging stakeholders earlier including the media on our activities and the proposed projects, the Authority decided to donate to patients at Thyolo District Hospital, noting that they are part of the community expected to benefit from the upcoming initiatives.”

The donation, worth K4 million, included essential items such as maize flour, soap, and cooking oil.

Haneefa Mayenda, the hospital’s nurse in-charge for the Nutrition and Rehabilitation Unit, welcomed the contribution. “This donation will go a long way in improving the welfare of patients under our care,” she said.

Similarly, Dorothy Macheka, a guardian from Kautuka Village under Senior Chief Nchiramwera, praised the Authority. “May God bless you for this kind gesture. It will help many children who are under treatment here,” she said.
