Police in Thyolo have arrested a 32-year-old man for allegedly being found in possession of assorted medical drugs without a license.
The suspect, identified as Feston Mbeza from Helemani Village, Traditional Authority Khwethemule, was arrested on Tuesday at Makwasa Trading Centre.
Thyolo Police Spokesperson, Rabecca Kashoti, confirmed the arrest, saying law enforcers received a tip-off before raiding Mbeza’s house where they discovered a large quantity of medical drugs.
“Our officers acted on intel and arrested the suspect at his house. Among the confiscated items were antibiotics, painkillers, contraceptives, injections and several bottles of syrups,” Kashoti said.
She added that the items included over 1,000 diclofenac capsules, 690 paracetamol tablets and 400 amoxicillin capsules.
Kashoti further revealed that Mbeza is expected to answer charges of being found in possession of medical drugs without a license and will appear in court soon.
Meanwhile, police have warned the public against keeping or selling medical drugs illegally.
“This malpractice is not only unlawful but also poses serious health risks to people who might use such drugs without proper prescription,” stressed Kashoti.
