The Egyptian embassy in Malawi claims unknown people have encroached and ransacked a building belonging to the office in Area 10- Lilongwe.

Egyptian Ambassador to Malawi Rasha Hamdy has told Zodiak that they are not aware of the people behind this vandalism but they reported the matter to police and ministry of Lands.

Hamdy added the people invaded the placed last week where they removed roofing of the building and cut all the trees in the compound.

"We are concerned with the damage of the building despite having all the legal documents and we believe the ministry of Lands will address the issue accordingly.

Minister of Lands Chimwemwe Chipungu who visited the place on Thursday expressed dismay with the development stressing that the law will act on the perpetrators.

"We are aware that middle men are grabbing land from individuals and institutions using the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) describing the tendency as inappropriate and illegal," Chipungu added.

Legal documents we have seen show that  the Egyptian government procured the land through Malawi Property Investment Company Limited in 1982.
