The only parliamentarian who won on an independent ticket in Thyolo–Mangunda–Khonjeni Constituency, Hastings Kajomba, has joined the ruling Democratic Progressive Party (DPP).
Kajomba confirmed the development in an interview with Zodiak on Friday, saying he has always been aligned with the DPP despite contesting as an independent in last year’s general elections.
“I have always been part of the DPP family. I only contested as an independent after losing in the party’s primary elections,” Kajomba said.
He said his move to officially rejoin the party aims to strengthen collaboration with government structures to bring tangible development to his area.
“People in my constituency should expect continued development projects, improved health services, and enhanced food security in the next five years,” he added.
Kajomba’s defection means all nine Members of Parliament from Thyolo District are now aligned with the Democratic Progressive Party.
DPP Southern Region governor Charles Mchacha welcomed Kajomba, describing his decision as “a sign of unity and growth for the party.”
Meanwhile, a nother independent parliamentarian from Nsanje, Walter Nyamilandu has also join led the DPP fold.
“We are happy to welcome Honourable Kajomba back home. His commitment to serve his people aligns well with the DPP’s development agenda,” said Mchacha.
