The Southern African Development Community (SADC) and COMESA have commended Malawi for holding a peaceful general election election.
Former president Joyce Banda made the revelation on Wednesday at Kamuzu International Airport on her arrival from Nairobi-Kenya where she attended the SADC-COMESA committee of elders.
Banda added that people of Malawi were hailed for embracing peace during the campaign period, throughout the voting process and after announcement of results.
Having served as a member of the committee of elders for almost three years she nonetheless expressed concern with political unrest in other African countries like Madagascar where the military has seized power from President Andry Rajoelina following weeks of youth-led protests.
The committee of elders comprises experienced individuals in many different contexts from traditional communities to modern and religious bodies.The officials can act as advisors to leaders, help make decisions on internal affairs.
