UDF NEC Members Congratulate APM for Leading Election Results

"We can not win these polls no matter what as we are fourth on the list" - UDF NEC Members

Some members of the National Executive Committee for the United Democratic Front (UDF) have congratulated DPP President Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika for taking a early lead in the country's general elections.

Speaking on Tuesday at a press briefing in a Lilongwe, the party's acting spokesperson, Alabana Chilungo says the party will concede any result that will be announced by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC).

Chilungo says the decision has been arrived at to promote peace and stability in the country as Malawians await for the poll results.

"We are not against anyone in the our party, we are just respecting the results that are being announced by the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC)," said Chilungo.

This, however, comes just days after the party's president, Atupele Muluzi announce that the party has penned MEC over irregularities which he said affected the voting process in the southern region.

Chilungo says they are not against their president but are only exercising freedom of speech.
