UTM’s Kabambe Congratulates Mutharika, Calls for Inclusive Governance

UTM President Dr. Dalitso Kabambe has extended his congratulations to Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika and the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) following their reported victory in the recently concluded general elections, describing the outcome as a reflection of the will of the Malawian people.

In a statement dated September 21, 2025, Kabambe emphasized that a peaceful transfer of power would underscore the strength of Malawi’s democracy and the resilience of its citizens.

“I wish to extend my sincere congratulations on your electoral victory. The democratic process has spoken, and the will of the Malawian people must be respected and upheld,” Kabambe stated. “A peaceful transfer of power will be a testament to the maturity of our democracy.”

He urged political leaders, stakeholders, and citizens to prioritize unity and national development in the post-election period.

“As Malawi moves forward, I encourage all stakeholders, supporters, and citizens to remain committed to peace, unity, and the collective development of our country,” he added.

Kabambe also addressed the recent passing of Vice President Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima, calling for transparency and accountability.

“I call for a thorough and independent inquiry into the tragic death of the late Right Honourable Dr. Saulos Klaus Chilima. Addressing this matter with urgency and transparency will help bring closure to the nation and reaffirm our commitment to justice,” he said.

Looking ahead, Kabambe reminded the DPP of its responsibility to serve all Malawians, regardless of political affiliation.

“Electoral victories are a mandate for service, not retribution. I urge your leadership to prioritize inclusive governance, heal divisions, and rebuild our economy. Malawi needs everyone working together to foster stability and prosperity,” he concluded.

Kabambe expressed hope that under Mutharika’s leadership, Malawi would continue on a path of progress and unity.

However, his statement comes amid ongoing uncertainty, as the Malawi Electoral Commission (MEC) has not yet officially declared the election results.

MEC Chairperson Justice Annabel Mtalimanja has cautioned political leaders against prematurely claiming victory.

“Only MEC has the legal mandate to announce the election results,” she affirmed.

Malawians continue to await the official outcome of the general elections held on September 16, 2025.
