FCB Nyasa Big Bullets climbed to the summit of the TNM Super League with a convincing 3–1 win over struggling Songwe Border United at Karonga Stadium, overtaking rivals Mighty Wanderers who were frustrated by a goalless draw against Creck Sporting Club at Balaka.
It was a big afternoon for the People’s Team as league top scorer Babatunde Adepoju once again proved decisive. The Nigerian forward struck twice to take his tally to 11 goals this season, cementing his reputation as the league’s most lethal striker. Midfielder Chikumbutso Salima who continues to impress with his creativity and work rate, added the third to complete a strong team performance.
Songwe Border United managed to pull one back through Kelvin Nyondo, but the hosts never truly threatened to mount a comeback as Bullets tightened their grip on the game in the second half. The result leaves Songwe firmly at the bottom of the table with only two points from 17 matches, a run that includes 15 defeats and just two draws.
After the game, Bullets assistant coach Gilbert Chirwa admitted his side was slow out of the blocks but praised the response after the interval.
“We started slowly, but I was impressed with our second-half improvement that secured all three points," said Chirwa.
Songwe coach Christopher Nyambose was blunt about his team’s poor form and the urgent need for a turnaround.
“We must start winning games if we’re to have any chance of avoiding relegation,” he said.
The win pushes Bullets to 40 points (13 wins, 1 draw and 3 defeats), one clear of Mighty Wanderers, who now sit in second place on 39 points after being held in Balaka. The tight race at the top sets up an exciting run-in for the league title.
Meanwhile, Silver Strikers maintained their push in third place with 36 points after a narrow 1–0 victory over Chitipa United, secured by a goal from Chinsisi Maonga.
At Civo Stadium, Civil Service United continued their impressive run by defeating Ekhaya FC 1-0, thanks to a first-half strike from Dastin Banda. The result extended Civil’s unbeaten streak to 10 games in all competitions, moving them into fourth place and strengthening their status as dark horses in this year’s campaign.
With Bullets back on top and the chasing pack refusing to back down, the battle for the TNM Super League crown is shaping up to be one of the most fiercely contested in recent years.
