Silver Strikers will be without nine key players when they face cross-town rivals Blue Eagles FC in a TNM Super League clash scheduled for Sunday afternoon at Nankhaka Stadium.
The Bankers, who are aiming to find their rhythm after a patchy start to the season, will miss several of their regular starters due to injuries. Among those sidelined are goalkeeper Charles Thom, defenders Chikondi Kamanga and Precious Sambani, and midfielders Maxwell Paipi, Gift Chunga, Duncan Nyoni, Charles Chipala, Sam Ademeyi, and Emmanuel Allan.
Speaking to the press on Friday morning, Silver Strikers head coach Peter Mgangira admitted that the number of absentees is a concern but remained positive about the options at his disposal.
“It’s a big blow, no doubt,” we are missing important players across all departments. But we have a good squad and the depth to cover for them. The boys know what’s at stake and are ready to step up,” said Mgangira.
With 11 points from six matches, Silver Strikers currently sit 7th on the TNM Super League table, seven points behind leaders FCB Nyasa Big Bullets.
Mgangira said that getting a result on Sunday is crucial if they are to mount a serious title challenge.
“It’s been a slow start for us, but a derby is always a good opportunity to turn things around. A win against Blue Eagles would really help us gain Momentum.
