The National Youth Football Association (NYFA) has announced the cancellation of both the regional and national finals for this year’s FCB Under-20 Katswiri League as it works to fix organisational challenges that affected the stages in the previous season.
NYFA General Secretary Rabson Woodwell confirmed the development, saying the association has opted to conclude the 2025 competition at district level.
“We encountered a number of setbacks during last year’s regional and national phases,” said Woodwell.
These ranged from logistical challenges to player management issues, and we felt it was necessary to pause and re-organise before proceeding with the same structure this year.”
Woodwell explained that the decision is part of a broader plan to ensure the league maintains its integrity and continues to serve its purpose of nurturing young talent.
“Our goal is to restore the regional and national finals next year,” he said. “We are reviewing our systems so that when these stages return, they operate more efficiently and benefit all stakeholders, especially the players.”
Historically, the regional and national phases have been key talent-identification platforms, giving national team coaches the opportunity to scout outstanding prospects for youth teams.
“Those stages were designed with a player-centric approach,” added Woodwell. “We want to maintain that vision, but we must first address the challenges to ensure the environment is right for the players.”
NYFA says consultations and structural adjustments are already underway ahead of the 2026 season.
