The Ministry of Higher Education, in collaboration with Ireland's Mary Immaculate College, has launched a new initiative to enhance leadership skills among Malawi's teacher educators.
The program, unveiled Thursday at the Malawi School of Government, builds on a partnership that has supported Malawian educators since 2022.
Higher Education Minister Dr. Jessie Kabwila praised the enduring relationship between the two nations.
“This initiative demonstrates the tangible benefits of our cooperation with Ireland," she said. "Currently, nine Malawian educators are advancing their careers through online Master's programs while continuing to serve in our schools, an approach that retains our best talent."
Dr. Finn Ó Murchú, former head of Mary Immaculate College, emphasized the program's potential impact. "Strong teacher leadership directly improves learning outcomes," he noted. "We envision this becoming a cornerstone of professional development across Malawi's education system."
The Malawi Teacher Educators Leadership Summer School will provide intensive training in instructional leadership, mentorship, and curriculum innovation.
Education stakeholders have welcomed the program as a significant step toward improving school leadership nationwide.
