Oxfam, in partnership with the Coalition for the Empowerment of Women and Girls (CEWAG), has organized a leadership training for female leaders drawn from Lilongwe District Council, the District Hospital, and the Malawi Police Service in Lilongwe.
Aimed at building the capacity of women leaders across various sectors, the training is part of an initiative to empower women to stand out in their professional careers.
According to Beatrice Mateyu, Executive Director of CEWAG, the program is designed to help women develop confidence in their abilities at their workplaces.
“As women, we face different challenges when we take up leadership positions. That is why we came up with this training, to help them build the needed confidence and to share ideas. This interaction will also help them create networks where they can support and encourage each other professionally,” she explained.
One of the participants, Sophia Rosemary Mthiko, Director of Education and Sports for Lilongwe City Council, said the training will help her improve her performance at work.
“In certain situations, I was finding myself weak and losing hope, but with this training, I am feeling confident because I can relate what I have learned here to challenges I have been facing,” Mthiko said.
She added that bringing together women leaders from different sectors will help her build a valuable professional network, allowing her to share experiences and strategies for handling workplace issues, which will ultimately strengthen her leadership skills.
The training included female officers from the Malawi Police Service, district healthcare workers, and staff from the Lilongwe City Council.
