An agro-dealer, Go Jet investments has expressed committed to help small-holder farmers easily access certified maize seeds and other farm inputs through a pre-payment method of buying the inputs.

Go Jet Investments Business Development Officer, Brenda Chitete, told Zodiak Online in Chitipa that the method, which allows farmers to pay for the inputs in installments is helping small-holder farmers who are low-income earners.

She said farmers are assured of buying certified seed without having the burden of settling huge costs at once.

Chitete was speaking in the area of Traditional Authority Mwaulambya in the district, after delivering maize seed to some of the beneficiaries of the initiative.

"Most farmers in Malawi are small holder farmers who are not financially capacitated so this method allows every farmer to have access to certified seeds and practice agribusiness in a good way," said Chitete.

A lead farmer at Chinzale Seedco Club in the area of Traditional Authority Mwaulambya in the district, Edson Nyondo, concurred with Chitete saying more farmers are now able to buy certified seed as they pay over a long period.

He further disclosed that through the initiative, farmers in the area managed to harvest bumper yields in the last farming season.

"In the past we were experiencing challenges to find genuine seeds as some of the seeds we were buying from  vendors were counterfeit, but with the coming of Go Jet Investments we are able to buy only certified seeds," said Nyondo.

During the event, Go Jet Investments distributed 10 tonnes of maize seed to 33 farmer groups.

The farmers started paying for the seed in instalments in June this year.

Through the initiative, the company plans to reach out to fifty farmers' clubs as growers are preparing for the 2025/2026 farming season.

Two weeks ago members of Kumitsinje Farmers' Club in the area of Traditional Authority Malili in Lilongwe also received their maize seed, under this arrangement.
