Traditional Leaders Calls for Govt Support on Community's Developments

Traditional leaders under Senior Chief Mwankhunikira in Rumphi have urged the government and other stakeholders to help them with resources to complete projects communities have embarked on in the area.

Speaking on Thursday, when officials from the Minitry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare visited the area, Group Village Headman Chivwenene, mentioned the construction of classroom blocks at  Sasasa and Chiwela Junoir Primary School and an under-five clinic at Mzale area as major projects under construction and need resources to complete.

The traditional leader said as communities are doing their part, implementating various development projects, government should also play its role supporting them.

"We are united here, whenever we want to do any development we work together but the challenge is that we have limited resources"said GVH Chivwenene.

On his part Gladwel Mbale, of Kanyawu Village Development Committee, said the coming in of community development month initiative by the ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare is crucial to them as it reminds them of their role in addressing challenges they are facing.

He highlighted that through the initiative they have planted over 200,000 trees in the previous rainy season, constructed roads, school blocks and teachers houses.

Meanwhile, Chief Community Development officer in the Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare, Philemon Mwale expressed satisfaction with the community's efforts towards development.

Mwale has encouraged traditional leaders and other local leaders to continue lobbying for resources from other stakeholders who have capacity to help them.

"As a Ministry, we are really encouraged the way communities here are implementating various development projects to change their lives; this is the way to go if we want to develop this country" said Mwale.

The projects are those done by communities themselves and these include, teachers houses and school blocks at Sasasa Primary School, an under-five clinic at Mzale and two houses at Chiwela Junior Primary School.
