Neno North Constituency legislator Thoko Tembo has told Zodiak today, Thursday, that Neno road has been budged for completion in the 2026-2027 National Budget, after people in the district raised concerns on the condition of the road.
The road condition has paralysed the heath system, education, trade and others, forcing people to spit anger on social media through a video Zodiak Online shared that went viral of a vehicle battling the terrain.
Thoko Tembo, who is also deputy minister of Agriculture said the concerns raised are genuine and he is committed to engaging the government for disbursing of funds for the completion of the road.
He said "every rainy season the nation is reminded of how bad the road becomes and the ministry of finance has assured me of enough funds to finish the project and incall for people's patience,".
Neno District Road Advocacy Group chairperson Samson Njolomole while welcoming the response, said they need temporary and immediate solution now to open up the district which is currently sealed.
He also called on citizens of Neno to join hands in pushing the government for the timely completion of the road.
Currently, medical referrals to Queen Elizabeth Central hospital in Blantyre have been suspected as ambulances can not navigate through the muddy and pothole riddled road. Agricultural produce too can not find its way to reliable markets with some schools shut as learners and teachers are failing to cross flooded rivers which have its bridges washed away.
The current downpour has worsened the condition of the 20 kilometer K36 Billion road project being manned by a Chinese construction company, CR-20.
