Leader of the Salvation For All Ministries International Apostle Clifford Kawinga has called for national support for farm inputs to over 9,000 households in 16 councils to mitigate risks of hunger associated with recent flooding.
Apostle Kawinga says the nation must stand in solidarity to address the likelihood of food shortages among disaster affected households whose crop fields have been washed away.
"The flooding has left many people without food. This is the time to empower the survivors' with farm inputs to venture into irrigation farming," said Apostle Kawinga.
He added, "The Ministry's Hope Field Initiative will establish three farmer clubs in Kaigwazanga area to ensure the survivors are food secure after losing their food due to the disaster."
He said this at Kaigwazanga in Mchinji after donating food and non food items to over 600 flood affected households in the area.
The flooding was caused by flash floods emanating from Mchinji Mountain resulted in Matizi River burst its banks
Mchinji District Commissioner Reinghard Chavula says the impact of the floods in Kaigwazanga area is devastating.
"More support is needed now to aid the families affected by the disaster," said Chavula, adding that the settlement of survivors at Kaigwazanga Primary School has also affected learning at the institution.
While one of the survivors, Edward Zulu, says life at the Kaigwazanga Primary School evacuation camp is unbearable, TA Kawere called on authorities to provide start-up capitals to rebuild livelihoods.
Last week's heavy rains and flooding in Mchinji affected over 900 families in the area of Traditional Authorities (TAs) Kawere and Mlonyeni, according to the Mchinji district council.
