Residents of Mzimba have commended the Malawi Electricity Access Project (MEAP) by the Electricity Supply Corporation of Malawi (ESCOM) for transforming lives through timely and affordable electricity connections.
A wave of irregularities has been uncovered in the implementation of Constituency Development Fund (CDF) projects in Mzimba South East and Mzimba Luwerezi constituencies, following a series of citizen forum meetings organized by the governance arm of the Mzimba Civil Society Network.
On February 19 this year, a gun totting police officer shot at Kingsley Kanyenda thrice near Raiply road block in Mzimba district.
To date, three government bullets are lodged in Kanyenda’s upper thigh. He cannot earn bread for his home.
Police claim that Kanyenda was shot trying to steal from a police truck. But Kanyenda tells a different story.
As the saying goes, "a stitch in time saves nine," people in remote and hard-to-reach areas continue to face difficulties in accessing health services from distant facilities. Chronic diseases and preventable deaths are common in such populations due to delayed treatment and a lack of nearby health facilities.
