MACRA Pushes For Speedy Completion of ICT Labs in Thyolo

The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA) has expressed confidence that construction of computer laboratories in Thyolo will move within a stipulated timeframe, following the launch of the Connect a School project in five constituencies.

Speaking at Chiriza Day Secondary School in Inkosi Bvumbwe, MACRA’s Customer Affairs Manager, Hutchson Mkwapatira, said the project relies on community collaboration.

“We expect school management committees and other stakeholders to coordinate operations with speed by ensuring local resources are made available on time. This project empowers locals to manage and sustain the facilities,” he said.

Former Thyolo north parliamentarian (now Bvumbwe–Masenjere, Ephraim Nayeja, described the development as a dream come true for the area.

“This facility will close the technical gap that has disadvantaged our rural communities for years. It is a big step forward for both the school and surrounding villages,” Nayeja said.

Chiriza Community Day Secondary School head teacher, Bernard Samudeni, also hailed MACRA and the former legislator for the support.

“The computer lab will not only enhance teaching and learning but also serve as a library and resource center for our teachers and learners,” said Samudeni.

MACRA is constructing 120 labs in the second phase of Connect a School Project under the Universal Service Fund.
